Pre-Purchase Inspection Botanic Ridge — Near-New Cars

Looking for an RACV-accredited workshop in Botanic Ridge?

RACV itself doesn’t send anyone out to inspect a car — it accredits workshops that meet its standards and lists them as RACV-Accredited Auto Care Centres, and the workshop you choose does the actual work. We hold that accreditation, and it’s our own technicians handling every Botanic Ridge inspection.

Practically, that means our price is on the page rather than something you have to ring and ask for — $460 incl. GST mobile anywhere in the south-east, $395 at Cranbourne West — and you book a time slot online rather than waiting on a callback. It also means we travel to you, so a car you don’t yet own never has to leave Botanic Ridge. RACV members should check with RACV directly on membership benefits; that side of it is theirs to confirm.

Buying near-new: why a three-year-old car still gets checked

Plenty of cars sold around Botanic Ridge are only a few years old and still inside a factory warranty. The instinct is to skip the inspection because the manufacturer is still on the hook. The problem is that a warranty covers manufacturing faults — it does not cover damage or poor repairs, and a lapsed service schedule can affect the cover you are counting on.

On a near-new car we spend most of the time on structure and history: panel and paint consistency, evidence of past repair, and tyre wear that points to alignment or an impact. Stored faults need the optional scan-tool scan, $100 extra — a separate charge, not part of the RACV inspection or its mechanical guarantee. We are about 8 minutes from Botanic Ridge along Ballarto Road, so the mobile inspection at $460 incl. GST is a short run for us — though at that distance the workshop option at $395, with the car on a hoist, is worth considering if the seller will allow it.

Does a car under factory warranty need a pre-purchase inspection?

A warranty protects against manufacturing defects, not against accident repair, neglect or a lapsed service schedule that can affect the cover. Those are exactly the things an inspection looks for.

Will you tell me if a near-new car has been repaired after a crash?

We report what we can see and measure — panel and paint inconsistencies, replaced components, and structural signs. We report the evidence plainly; we cannot certify a car has never been damaged.
