Mercedes Service Plan vs Paying Per Service
A Mercedes service plan locks tomorrow’s prices to one workshop network; paying per service does not. At StarTech Prestige, independent ASSYST Service A is from $500 incl. GST, with Service B quoted on what’s due — compare that per-service figure against your plan’s renewal price before you pay. Here’s the comparison the plan brochure never shows you.
What a plan really buys
A service plan is prepayment: you buy tomorrow’s scheduled services at today’s price, locked to one workshop network. On a brand-new car — often bundled into the finance — that can be a fair trade. The maths changes when the plan comes up for renewal, or when you are considering one for a car that is already out of warranty.
Do this before paying: take the renewal price, divide it by the services it covers, and put that per-service figure next to an independent quote for the same ASSYST items. Here that comparison is Service A from $500 incl. GST and Service B quoted on what your service indicator says is actually due, fixed in writing before any work. Plans also generally cover the scheduled items only — wear and repairs stay extra at the network’s own rates, so the plan never caps what the car really costs. See Mercedes Service A from $500 for the full service page.
And the tie-breaker most people miss: a plan locks you in whether or not the service experience is good. Paying per service keeps the workshop accountable every single visit.
StarTech Prestige is an independent workshop. We are not affiliated with, or authorised by, Mercedes-Benz AG, Mercedes-Benz Australia/Pacific or any Mercedes-Benz dealership. “Mercedes-Benz” is used to describe the vehicles we service.
Service Plans — FAQ
Not always — bundled into finance on a new car, a plan can be reasonable. The maths usually turns after the plan or warranty ends: renewing plan pricing against an independent quote is exactly the comparison worth making before you pay.
Plans differ, so check yours — but scheduled-service plans generally cover the scheduled items only. Wear items and repairs are usually extra, at the dealer’s rates, which is where the total cost of ownership actually lives.
Pay per service, only for what falls due: ASSYST Service A from $500 incl. GST, Service B quoted on what your indicator says is due — fixed in writing before we start, nothing prepaid for years ahead. Same access to genuine Mercedes-Benz parts, dealer-level scan tooling for resets and coding.
No — under Australian Consumer Law and ACCC guidance, your warranty stays valid when the car is serviced to the manufacturer’s schedule by a qualified workshop using appropriate-quality parts.
