What a minor service covers

A minor (or “interim”) service is the regular health check — engine oil and filter, a safety inspection, fluid top-ups and a check of brakes, tyres, lights and the obvious wear items. It keeps the car healthy between the bigger jobs.

It’s the most frequent service and the cheapest, but it’s not the whole story.

What a major service adds

A major (or “logbook”) service adds the items due at longer intervals — things like cabin and air filters, spark plugs, brake-fluid changes, and a deeper inspection, on top of everything in a minor service. It’s what keeps the car reliable long-term and your warranty intact.

Modern cars often follow a manufacturer schedule that alternates the two, with extra items at set kilometre milestones.

Which do you need — and getting value

The right service depends on your kilometres, time since the last one, and your logbook schedule. The cheapest advertised “service” is usually just an oil change — fine sometimes, but not a substitute for the full schedule.
