Major vs Minor Service: What’s the Difference?
What’s actually the difference between a major and minor service — and which does your car need? A Cranbourne West specialist explains.
What each typically covers
A minor service is the regular maintenance interval — engine oil and filter, key fluid and safety checks, and an inspection of brakes, tyres and the basics.
A major service adds the bigger interval items — things like air, fuel and cabin filters, spark plugs, brake-fluid change, and a more thorough inspection. Major intervals also often coincide with items like timing or transmission services.
Which one your car needs
It depends on the kilometres/age and your manufacturer’s schedule — the two alternate, with major services at the longer intervals. The logbook (or we) will tell you which is due.
We service to the correct schedule with a fixed written quote, and flag any extra items we find — never a surprise.
Not sure which is right for your car?
Every car and situation is different — the best choice depends on your exact vehicle, how you use it and its condition. We give you straight, no-pressure advice based on what’s actually best for you, not what makes us the most.
