What it is & what it does

The serpentine (drive) belt is a single belt that winds around several pulleys to drive the alternator, water pump (on some engines), power-steering pump, and air-con compressor off the engine. It’s tensioned by an automatic tensioner.

It’s separate from the timing belt — the drive belt runs the accessories, the timing belt runs the engine’s valves.

Signs of trouble & how we help

A worn belt squeals (especially cold or on start-up) and a failed tensioner rattles. If the belt snaps you lose charging and, on some engines, the water pump — leaving you stranded or overheating. It’s a cheap, high-value replacement.

We inspect the belt, tensioner and pulleys at every service and replace them before they fail.
