About the GLC

The GLC (X253, 2015–) shares much of its mechanicals with the C-Class, so many of the same strengths and watch-points apply — with the extra weight and complexity of an SUV. The petrol and diesel versions are both common locally.

As with any modern Mercedes, correct servicing is what separates a reliable GLC from an expensive one.

Common GLC issues

Keep an eye on oil leaks (cam-cover and oil-cooler seals), cooling-system components, and the front suspension, which works hard on a heavier SUV. The diesels need correct DPF/EGR care, particularly if the car does mostly short suburban trips.

Electrically, the usual suspects are sensors, the COMAND/MBUX system and parking aids. The 9G-TRONIC automatic is strong but benefits from a transmission service it’s often denied.
