Signs you need this looked at
- Clicking or knocking when turning at low speed, worse on full lock
- Grease sprayed inside the wheel arch or across the tyre wall
- A torn, cracked or perished rubber boot at the driveshaft
- Vibration or clunking under acceleration

Diagnose first, fix second — quoted before either
- Inspection of both inner and outer boots, and joint play, on each driveshaft
- Boot replacement with fresh grease where the joint is still good — the cheap fix, if you catch it in time
- Full shaft or joint replacement where the joint is already worn or contaminated
- Roadworthy assessment, since a split boot is a common RWC failure item
A split boot lets grit in and grease out. Fix the boot early and it is minor; leave it and the joint wears out and the whole shaft gets replaced.
