What Is a Throttle Body?
The throttle body controls how much air your engine gets. A Cranbourne West specialist explains.
What it is & what it does
The throttle body is a valve that regulates airflow into the engine based on the accelerator. On modern cars it’s electronic (“drive-by-wire”) — the pedal sends a signal and a motor opens the throttle.
It also manages idle on many engines.
Signs of trouble & how we help
A dirty or faulty throttle body causes rough or high idle, hesitation, stalling, or a check-engine/EPC light. It sometimes just needs cleaning (and an adaptation/relearn afterwards), sometimes replacing.
We diagnose it with live data, clean or replace it, and perform the throttle adaptation so the idle is correct.
