What it is & what it does

A petrol/gasoline particulate filter (GPF/OPF) traps soot from modern direct-injection petrol engines to cut emissions — the petrol equivalent of a diesel DPF. It’s increasingly common on new European turbo-petrol cars.

Like a DPF it regenerates (burns off soot) during normal driving.

Signs of trouble & how we help

GPF issues are less common than DPF ones but can include blockage (lots of very short trips), or a fault triggering a warning light or reduced power. Correct servicing and the occasional longer drive help.

We diagnose GPF faults and the underlying cause, and advise on keeping it healthy.

Questions about your car? Just ask.

Understanding what’s under the bonnet makes servicing decisions easier — and we’re always happy to explain what your car needs and why, in plain English.
